Paul Chaffee Writes About Shinnyo-en

Esther Jantzen brought Paul’s recent article from The Interfaith Observer to my attention and suggested that I post it here, and I’m happy to do so.  The title of Paul’s article is: “Shinnyo-en Memorial Ceremony Draws 40,000”.  It is partly about this impressive Honolulu Memorial Day event and Shinnyo-en, the young Buddhist order that is behind the event.  But it is about a more important need in the Interfaith movement.

Click here to see Paul’s article.  Thanks, Paul; well said (well, well written!).

Woodstock Food

For those who haven't seen this NDTV segment on Woodstock and it's food, it's a fun few minutes.  Remember the food we had at Woodstock:  bread and treacle, sh** on a single, and almost un-chewable meats?  What an improvement!

Slide Collections

Some time ago I did a presentation at Doug & Ann Pickett’s retirement center’s armchair travel program about the trek to the Everest area.  I’m also putting together other collections of slides, many of India in the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Kumjung village above Namche, about 12-13,000'.

For those of you who might like to see them, I’ve gotten two collections together and posted them to my “under construction” website:  http://hanklacy.me/devsite/default.html  To see the Everest collection click on the top thumbnail in the left column.  The thumbnail of the Taj will take you to slides of India, mostly in the early to mid-50s.  Don’t stray too far – eventually all the thumbnails and links across the top of the page will be linked to various collections but it’s all a work in progress.

Enjoy.

Another Naples (FL) Gathering

I was in Florida recently to visit Peace Corps and GNID friends in the area, and to scope out real estate for my probable move to that area in a few years.  Rykken and Larry were good enough to show me around the Naples area for pretty much most of one day; and Barb, Laurie, and Patrick on another.  And Sue and Paul were kind enough to host an evening at their super condo for the whole GNID gang.  Great fun.

When we were all together at Sue’s we were so distracted by the incredible sunset and Naples lights, and typical GNID conversation that we didn’t take any pictures.  But here’s a jiggered one for the record taken by Patrick on the edge of the Everglades.  Larry is off in the woods looking for a golf ball and Sue decided to take a swim.
